The motion passed after several Republicans joined Democrats on the panel in backing the subpoena. South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace led the effort to compel Bondi’s testimony, according to reporting fromPolitico.

Five Republican members voted alongside Democrats during the committee vote, including Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, and Michael Cloud of Texas.

The subpoena is expected to require Bondi to appear before the committee to answer questions about the Justice Department’s handling of Epstein-related materials and investigative records.

Speaking to reporters after the vote, Mace said the inquiry would focus on documentation the committee believes has not been publicly released.

“We’re gonna be talking about real, substantive issues, like the 65,000 documents that are being hidden by the DOJ right now,” Mace said.

Bondi has faced criticism in recent months over how the Justice Department addressed public interest in Epstein-related files.

In 2025, Bondi organized an event in which binders containing largely public information about Epstein were distributed to a group of social media influencers. The rollout was described by the department as the first phase of document disclosures.
