Baloch separatists targeted Pakistani security forces in Balochistan, killing four paramilitary personnel and leaving many injured in the attack on Wednesday.
In separate ongoing counterterrorism operations, meanwhile, Pakistani security forces killed 34 terrorists in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces on the same day.
According to security sources, at least four Frontier Corps officials were killed and one suffered injuries when armed motorcyclists opened fire on their vehicle near the Molvi Salah Udin Madrasa Chaman town of the Balochistan province.
The injured were rushed to Quetta for further treatment and a search operation is underway in the area to identify and nab the attackers.
This comes a day after the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) released the identities of seven members killed during ‘Operation Herof Phase 2’ in Balochistan, which is a declared military campaign by the separatists.
The army said at least 34 terrorists have been killed by Pakistani security forces as part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
The security forces killed 26 terrorists in four separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the northwest and another eight in Balochistan province in the southwest of the country.
In a statement, the army said over the past few days, security forces conducted a series of intelligence-based operations, part of a relentless counter terrorism campaign – aimed at eliminating ‘Fitna-al-Khwarij’ and ‘Fitna-al-Hindustan’, a term the government uses claiming that the militants allegedly receive support from Indian intelligence agencies.
The term Fitna-al-Khwarij is used for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists and Fitna-al-Hindustan for ethnic Baloch terrorists active in Balochistan.
The army said movement of a group of terrorists opposite the Hassan Khel area of North Waziristan district was detected while they were trying to infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The army killed one militant, who was identified as an Afghan national.
