Days after a social media post claimed that boys and girls were prohibited from standing together on campus during Ramadan,Jamia Millia Islamiaissued a clarification rejecting the allegation. The university stated that no such circular had been released and described the document circulating online as completely "fake". Calling it a case of misinformation, the administration lodged a formal complaint with the police cybercrime branch and sought strict action against those responsible for creating and spreading the false claim.

Jamia Millia Islamia issued a circular on Tuesday (February 24) debunking the notification circulating on social media, claiming the university planned to arrange nikah for boys and girls found standing together during the holy month of Ramadan.

In the circular, the university said the purported notice dated February 20 is "totally fake" and that no such direction has been issued by its authorities. The administration urged students and staff not to take the viral message seriously, saying it appeared to be aimed at maligning the institution's image, the official statement read.

University officials said a complaint has been lodged with the Delhi Police regarding the circulation of the fake notice.

Claim: Couple (Boy & Girl) found standing together inside Jamia Millia Islamia will be married off.

Fact: "Fake" notification, the university clarified.

The viral circular, dated Feb 20, claimed that during the Holy month of Ramadan, standing together as a couple (boy and girl) is strictly prohibited.

"If any couple is found standing together, their nikkah will be arranged immediately. In the event of a violation, the couple will be responsible for arranging their own Walima (wedding reception)," it further read.

The document had a signature of the university's office of registrar and academic branch, and was attributed under the Jamia Millia Islamia university. The notification was widely shared on WhatsApp groups and social media platforms.
