Mayor Her made history becoming the first woman and first Hmong mayor of St. Paul, Minnesota after defeating two-term incumbent Melvin Carter. Just six months into office, St. Paul Police Chief Axel Henry filed a formal sexual harassment complaint against her, alleging unwanted physical contact, sexualized text messages, and inappropriate conduct toward multiple officers.
Among the allegations: Her reportedly commented on a female deputy chief's breasts in a locker room, made sexual noises while stretching in the police weight room in front of officers, and sent a photoshopped meme referencing sex to a police officer's phone. The deputy chief named in the complaint has since retired. Her office says the mayor has "deep respect for city employees" and looks forward to the investigation closing.
