India are all set to take on Zimbabwe in their second match of the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 stage. This is a must-win game for the Men in Blue as the are coming on the back off a 76-run loss to South Africa, and need two victories in their next two games to stay in contention of qualifying for the semi-finals of the mega tournament. Just two days before the clash against Zimbabwe in Chennai, India were dealt with a blow as Rinku Singh had to leave the squad and he was not present in training on the day the Men in Blue reached Chennai.
According to a report by NDTV, Rinku Singh had to leave the squad in the middle of the T20 World Cup 2026 because his father is suffering from stage 4 liver cancer. He is currently in the hospital on ventilator support, and hence is with his family to support them during this crucial time.
However, there is no certainty on when Rinku would return to join the squad, meaning that there is no suereity on whether he would play the game vs Zimbabwe.
Rinku Singh has not had a great tournament so far in the T20 Word Cup 2026. He has scored only 24 runs in five innings, staying not out twice and having a best score of 11*.

As India went into the practice session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, all players attended the practice session. The two players who had the most sessions were Axar Patel and Sanju Samson.
It can be assumed that India would shake up the playing XI from their loss against South Africa. Hence, Sanju Samson will come into the side to break the left-handed monotony in the top order. He will be the one to replace Rinku Singh.
After being dropped vs South Africa, vice-captain Axar Patel will also return to the playing XI in place of Washington Sundar.
