US PresidentDonald Trumphas criticised the US Supreme Court’s decision to block his global tariffs, calling it a “very unfortunate ruling".
Kicking off his 2026 State of the Union address outlining his second-term vision, Trump warned that the new tariffs could be “far worse" but would ease the financial burden on Americans.
The US President said the Dow and S&P were rallying because of tariffs. He claimed that countries which were “ripping us so badly" are now paying tariffs and are happy with the deals made.
“Countries that were ripping us so badly are now paying tariffs. And they are happy, we are happy. Democrats may not agree but they know. Supreme Court ruling is unfortunate. But good news is all countries who have made the deal want to keep the deal they made on tariffs," he said.
The US Supreme Court last week blocked his global tariffs. Trump further also warned that new tariffs could be harsher.
In his State of the Union address, Trump said tariffs paid by foreign countries would replace the modern-day system of income tax.
“As time goes by, I believe that tariffs, paid for by foreign countries, will, like in the past, substantially replace the modern-day system of income tax, taking a great financial burden off the people that I love," he said.
He also said foreign countries would pay income tax, reducing the burden on Americans.
Trump also highlighted a $6.25 billion pledge byMichael DellandSusan Dell, calling them “great people". He said the donation, along with Trump Accounts, would help children build wealth.
Trump also criticised Democrats over immigration and prices.
