It was not a bird or a plane, but Hillsborough County deputies say the man wearing a Superman costume was a burglary suspect. Deputies responded to Ruskin on July 25 after a boat owner discovered someone had broken into the cabin of a vessel anchored behind the owner’s home, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Several power tools were reported stolen. The sheriff’s office said investigators identified 57-year-old James Tidwell as the suspect. Body-camera video released by the agency shows deputies questioning Tidwell as he stands outside wearing a Superman shirt, red cape and matching costume. When deputies tell him they are investigating a burglary, Tidwell points toward a nearby boat and appears to acknowledge taking property, telling them he “only took three items.” The sheriff’s office said Tidwell, whom it described as a convicted felon, confessed to the theft and was taken into custody. Tidwell was arrested on charges of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and first-degree petit theft, according to HCSO.
