Russia "will be forced" to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine if Britain arms the country with nukes, Putin's top crony has warned. Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president, said: "The information aboutFranceand Britain's intention to transfer nuclear technology to the Kyiv Nazi regime radically changes the situation…

"This is a direct transfer of nuclear weapons to a country at war. There can be no doubt that, given such a development,Russiawill be forced to use any nuclear weapons against targets inUkrainethat pose a threat to our country.

"And, if necessary, against supplier countries that become complicit in a nuclear conflict with Russia."

Putin also directly addressed the nuclear claims by saying that "the enemy doesn't hesitate to use any means."

Downing Street has vehemently denied the claims, with Prime MinisterKeir Starmer's official spokesman describing them as "a clear attempt byVladimir Putinto distract from peace."

The warning was issued in a bid to justify Russia's war against Ukraine, which marks itsfourth year today(February 24).

Earlier today,Sir Keir Starmervowed the UK will stand byUkrainefor "as long as it takes", despite the war entering its fourth year.

He said: "This is not a remote conflict a long way away from the United Kingdom.
