Harry Brook produced one of the all-time greatest knocks in T20 World Cup history as he made 100 runs off just 51 balls against Pakistan after promoting himself to number three as England sealed their place in the semi-final by beating Pakistan by two wickets with five balls to spare on Tuesday (February 24) at the Pallekele International Stadium. Despite the two-time champions losing three wickets in the powerplay, Brook kept the ante up and managed to ensure his team got over the line on a tricky surface.
Brook had a poor start to the tournament with just 102 runs in five innings before this, but his bold move to change his batting position paid off. The England captain managed to set multiple world records in the process, as England remained unbeaten in the Super 8 stage after a 51-run victory over Sri Lanka on Sunday (February 22).
Harry Brook became the first captain in the tournament's history to score a century in the 10th edition. The previous highest individual score belonged to West Indian cricket legend Chris Gayle in the 2010 edition against India and held the elusive record for 16 years.

This is also the first instance of a captain scoring a century against the Men in Green in a T20I. The previous best score in an innings by a player leading his team over Pakistan was by Jos Buttler, when he scored 84 runs in 2024 at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.
Brook is the fourth player in the 2026 T20 World Cup to score a century. He is also the fourth player in the tournament's history, after Alex Hales, Chris Gayle, and Pathum Nissanka, to score a century in the tournament's history in a run chase. Brook is the third player for England in the mega event to reach the three-figure mark after Hales and Jos Buttler.
