A total of 179Venezuelanprisoners have been released from prison under a new law granting amnesty for a range of crimes historically used to lock up dissidents, an MP said Tuesday.

Jorge Arreaza, the head of the parliamentary commission overseeing the application of the amnesty, added that around 3,000 others, who were out on parole, had also been cleared of all charges
