Pakistan's hopes of reaching the 2026 T20 World Cup semi-finals are hanging by a thread after a four-wicket defeat to England in their second Super 8 game of the tournament at the Pallekele International Stadium on Tuesday (February 24), as a century from Harry Brook sealed England's place in the semi-final.

Chasing 165, the two-time champions completed a victory with five balls to spare, with Brook making only 100 runs off just 51 balls. Pakistan has one point after two games as their first game against New Zealand was washed out due to rain. Apart from England, no other team has yet won a game in this group.

Pakistan's fate is no longer in its own hands; if New Zealand wins both of their remaining games, the Men in Green will be knocked out regardless of the result of their game against Sri Lanka.

If New Zealand loses both their games, the winner of the game between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on Saturday (February 28) will qualify for the last four. The co-hosts will be knocked out if they lose to the Black Caps tomorrow (February 25).

If New Zealand win one of their two games and Pakistan manages to defeat the 2014 champions, the team with the better Net Run Rate (NRR) will qualify.

The good thing for the Salman Ali Agha-led side is that England won today's game with only five balls to spare, which means their NRR has taken minimal damage.

Like New Zealand, even Sri Lanka will qualify if they win both their remaining matches.
