An emergency alert has been issued at Washington University inSt. Louisfollowing reports of an armed person on campus. The university said the initial alert was sent at about 09:19 local time, after an armed individual was reported at the Danforth Campus.

In a message posted on its website and on the social media platform X, the university said: “Run, Hide, or Fight. If hide, lock or barricade yourself in a room until further notice. If off campus, stay away.”

At 09:34, the WashU Emergency Management Department said police were “checking buildings in the vicinity of Brookings Hall after receiving reports of a person with a weapon”.

“There is no confirmation of an active shooter but please remain in place,” the statement added. “If you see an armed person, Run, Hide, or Fight.”

In a further update at 09:53, officials said: “Police are still on the scene near Brookings Hall and other Danforth Campus buildings. Continue to remain in place until further notice.”

At 10:13, the department said officers were “working to complete their search of Danforth Campus buildings” and again urged people to remain in place until further notice.

Police have not confirmed reports of an active shooter.
