India batter Rinku Singh has left the India camp and returned home before the 2026 T20 World Cup clash against Zimbabwe. The left-handed batter has returned home to be with his father, who is unwell. He didn't train with the squad in Chennai on Tuesday (February 24). He is expected to rejoin the squad before India's second Super 8 game. Rinku has struggled for runs in the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup and only managed to score 24 runs in 5 innings. He departed for just six runs in the first game against the USA. Suryakumar Yadav stepped up and slammed an unbeaten 84 to take India to a total of 161.

Rinku failed to up the ante against Namibia and only scored 1 run off the six balls he faced. Rinku scored a quick 11 off just 4 balls against Pakistan. He remained unbeaten on 6 off 3 balls against the Netherlands. The fans had high hopes from Rinku against South Africa but he departed for a duck. Rinku could get dropped from the playing XI against Zimbabwe.

The game against Zimbabwe is a must-win for India and a defeat here will mark an end to their campaign. The defending champions failed to chase a target of 188 against South Africa and suffered a big 76-run defeat in their first Super 8 game.

More than the defeat, the margin of defeat hurt India. India aren't guaranteed to make it to the semi-final even if he they win their next two games. The Men in Blue have to register big wins over Zimbabwe and West Indies to improve their NRR and keep their semi-final hopes alive.

Courtesy of their 107-run win over Zimbabwe, West Indies have 2 points in their account at a high NRR of +5.350. SA's big win over India meant that they have a huge NRR of +3.800. India have an NRR of -3.800. Zimbabwe, who won all four games in the league stage, have a poor NRR of -5.350.
