The head of Korea's media and telecommunications regulator met with Brazil's communications minister Tuesday to discuss cooperation in next-generation broadcasting.

Kim Jong-cheol, chair of the Korea Media Communications Commission (KMCC), held talks with Frederico Siqueira, Brazil's minister of communications, on supporting the South American country's TV 3.0 project, a next-generation broadcasting standard, the KMCC said.

Last year, the Brazilian government adopted next-generation digital broadcasting technology developed by Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) as its official technical standard.

The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in building a new media ecosystem amid a rapidly evolving landscape driven by online streaming platforms.

They plan to discuss detailed follow-up measures, including the signing of memorandums of understanding (MOUs), to produce tangible outcomes and respond to the fast-changing global media market.
