To explore how Americans currently define good citizenship, this author engaged Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, to survey publicly available sources addressing the question directly: "What does it mean to be a good citizen?" Claude searched several neutral phrasings--deliberately avoiding loaded terms to prejudice the results--and compiled the data from twenty-one distinct sources after removing duplicates. These ranged from university blogs and civics lesson plans to online forums, one devotional essay, and a 2019 Pew Research Center survey of American attitudes (Pew Research Center, 2019).
