JD Vancehas deleted a post honoring the victims of one of the largest systematic slaughters of Christians in history.
The Vice President's X account was purged of all mention of the Armenian Genocide just hours before he arrived in Azerbaijan on Tuesday.
The Islamic dictatorship actively denies the genocide took place, siding with its ally Turkey which condemns international efforts to recognize the mass slaughter.
More than 1.5 million Christian Armenians were wiped out by the Ottoman Turks between 1915 and 1923.
A spokesman for Vance said the tweet was posted in error by a staffer.
'This is an account managed by staff that primarily exists to share photos and videos of the Vice President's activities,' the official told reporters.
Vance concluded a diplomatic visit to the Republic ofArmeniaearlier on Tuesday with a stop at the Armenian Genocide Museum alongside Second Lady Usha Vance.
