AMERICANS planning on traveling to Mexico for Spring Break have been warned to double-check alerts before flying as violence breaks out near tourist hot spots.

Lawless drug traffickers aresetting beach towns ablazeafter their leader was gunned down by authorities in a dramatic nationwide sting on Sunday.

Now, leaders in the US are warning Americans tokeep a close eye on travel advisoriesas the annual school break approaches.

Dr. Víctor D. Treviño, who is the mayor of the Texas border town Laredo, warned families planning ontraveling for Spring Break of the violence in Jalisco.

The western Mexican state is known for its coastal resort town Puerto Vallarta and the capital Guadalajara, which attract both beach bums and those with family nearby.

But it’s also where the dangerous Jalisco New Generation Cartel is based, which was led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho” before his death on Sunday.

Under the current advisory, anyone planning on traveling to the area should take careful thought and preparation before flying as security operations are underway.

Affected areas include Jalisco, Tamaulipas State, including Reynosa and other municipalities, areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State.
