AT least 73 people have been left dead in thechaosfollowing the death of a Mexican cartel leader, after one of his lovers was tracked by spies.

The notorious cartel boss was killed after authorities followed his mistress to a secluded love nest, according to officials.

On Monday, Mexico’s Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla revealed that agents had seen a man close to a girlfriend of New Generation Jalisco Cartel (CJNG) boss Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cerantes.

The officers discovered the woman had been transported to Tapalpa, ahead of the raid.

Oseguera and his men were then located in the mountainside getaway community in Jalisco, Trevilla said.

The crime boss’s death has unleashed a wave of violence across the country, as terrifying footage from on the ground revealed the scale of devastation.

Panicked tourists were seen attempting to flee the country through Guadalajara airport as armed cartel gunmen stormed the terminal, firing shots and sending crowds scrambling for cover.

Across the city, cars were torched and thick plumes of smoke billowed into the sky, turning Guadalajara into a war zone.
