Nine people were wounded during a mass shooting outside the Reign Event Center on Hennepin Avenue in Uptown Minneapolis early Sunday morning. Minneapolis police reportedly responded shortly after 12:30 a.m. and arrived within approximately one minute as officers encountered a large crowd and multiple injured victims.
The Minneapolis victims were identified as seven men and two women between the ages of 18 and 27. Four victims were located at the scene, while five others later arrived at area hospitals. Investigators believe gunfire erupted following an altercation outside the nightclub and are examining whether someone may have fired from a vehicle. No arrests had been announced at the time of this report.
Hours later, another mass shooting unfolded near Congress Street and Sixth Avenue in downtown Tucson, Arizona. Police officers conducting foot patrols reportedly heard the gunfire and ran toward the scene. Authorities say nine adult victims were shot and transported to hospitals with critical injuries.
Officers encountered the suspected shooter and issued repeated commands before one officer opened fire, striking him. The suspect was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Authorities said the nine victims suffered gunshot wounds to their extremities. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is handling the criminal investigation connected to the officer-involved shooting.
