A soon-to-be grandfather has been identified as one of the survivors of the deadly avalanche near Lake Tahoe, California last week that left nine people dead.
Jim Hamilton was one of six survivors rescued nearly six hours after the snowslide caught a group of 15 skiers, including a group of six “super moms” and four guides, who were backcountry skiing at Castle Peak.
“I thought I had lost you forever,” his wife Beth Hamiltonwrote in a Facebook post Friday. “The not knowing whether you survived was a pain I cannot put into words.”
The family called his survival a “miracle,” saying his life was “spared.”
The Hamilton daughters are welcoming grandchildren this year, according to the Facebook post.
“We are all so lucky to continue sharing this amazing life with you, J-Pa, and having our family complete,” Beth wrote. “I can’t imagine it any other way. My love, my GOAT — welcome home.”
On Thursday, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office released the identities of all the victims.
The family of the six women killed also broke silence, naming the group of friends who perished in the avalanche.
Carrie Atkin, Kate Morse, Danielle Keatley, Caroline Sekar, Kate Vitt and Liz Claubaugh all died Tuesday in the tragic event, and their loved ones united torelease a statement Thursday.
