Jasprit Bumrah was India's lone warrior in the humiliating defeat by 76 runs against South Africa in their first Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, as he bowled a magical spell with the ball, while the other Indian bowlers had a day to forget apart from Arshdeep Singh. Bumrah took three wickets while giving away just 15 runs in four overs, while India conceded 187 runs.

The star Indian pacer helped India get a dream start in the power play with the big dismissals of Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickleton. He later returned in the slog overs to dismiss Corbin Bosch. While Arshdeep Singh finished with figures of 2-28, the other 12 overs from India were hit for 144 runs with just three wickets falling.

The dismissal of de Kock saw Bumrah rattle the stumps and create history by breaking Lasith Malinga's record. Among pacers, no player has more bowled dismissals (44) than the Indian cricket star in the shortest format of the game.
