Pakistan continued their winning run and moved a step closer to qualifying for the Super 8 of the 2026 T20 World Cup with a win over the USA on Tuesday (February 10). The Salman Agha-led side registered a 29-run win over the USA. The USA had stunned Pakistan in the league stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, the USA have suffered two back-to-back defeats in the ongoing ICC event and they are now in danger of missing out on qualifying for the Super 8. Pakistan's win over the USA saw them make big gains and they are the top-placed team in Group A.
The 2009 T20 World Cup Champions have 4 points in their account at an NRR of +0.932. India, on the other hand, have 2 points at an NRR of 1.450. The Men in Blue have only played one game so far. India are favourites going into their game against Namibia, scheduled to be played on Thursday (February 12).
A win over Namibia will see India displace Pakistan from the top and become the top-placed team in the points table again. USA continue to sit in the last position. The Netherlands have moved to the third spot. Netherlands have 1 win from 2 matches. They have 2 points at an NRR of +0.356.
Meanwhile, Pakistan took a U-turn on Monday (February 9) and announced that they would take the field against India on February 15. Earlier, the Pakistan government had asked the PCB to boycott the India fixture.
"In view of the outcomes achieved in multilateral discussions, as well as the request of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan hereby directs the Pakistan National Cricket Team to take the field on February 15, 2026, for its scheduled fixture in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup," the Pakistan government said in a statement.
"Moreover, this decision has been taken with the aim of protecting the spirit of cricket and supporting the continuity of this global sport in all participating nations."
The winner of the India-Pakistan fixture will most likely finish in the top position. The fixture will take place on February 15 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from 7:00 PM IST. The toss will take place at 6:30 PM IST.
