In a major crackdown on terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have neutralised seven operatives associated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in a month, including a top commander linked to past attacks. Thelatest encounterin Kishtwar, where three terrorists were eliminated on Sunday, marks a key breakthrough in the ongoing operations. Earlier, two terrorists were killed in the Ramanagar forest inUdhampuron February 4 and one was neutralised in Parhetar village of Kathua on January 23. "The pursuit continues - no space, mp sanctuary for those who seek to undermine stability," the Indian Army said.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Counter-Insurgency Force (CIF) Delta, Major General A P S Bal, SM said, "... We'll keep neutralising terrorists whosoever comes in our area...In February, we have been able to eliminate six JEM terrorists and on both the extremes of our area, one in the area of Udampur and the other in the area of Kishtwar..." "Locals who helped terrorists are on radar of J&K Police and appropriate action will be taken," the official said.
Saifullah, a notorious JeM commander, who had escaped multiple encounters in the past was among the three terrorists neutralised by security forces in Kishtwar encounter on Sunday. The bodies of all the slain terrorists were charred beyond recognition as the mud house they were hiding in caught fire during the gunfight and efforts are on to identify them, the security forces said.

Saifullah had reportedly infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir nearly five years ago and had since remained active in the region, allegedly masterminding several deadly attacks on security forces, including one in July 2024 that left four soldiers dead. He was trapped 17 times, but had managed to escape.

The terrorists were neutralised during the "Trashi-I" operation in the general area of Passerkut in the Chatroo belt and two AK-47 rifles, along with ammunition, seized.

Earlier this month, two Pakistani terrorists, including another commander of JeM were neutralised by security forces in Udhampur district. A large quantity of arms and ammunition, including an M4 carbine and an AK assault rifle, were recovered from the neutralised terrorists.
The terrorists were trapped inside a natural cave. One of the neutralised terrorists was identified as Rubani alias Abu Mavia, a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad, who was active in the area for the last several years. The other terrorist has been identified as Zubair.
