The Indian Embassy inMexicohas issued an urgent advisory after violence erupted across Jalisco state following the killing of a top cartel leader. The embassy has advised Indian nationals to take shelter and avoid areas around law enforcement activity. Citizens have also been informed to monitor local updates. Caution has been issued forJalisco, Tamaulipas, and areas of Michoacan, Guerrero, and Nuevo Leon. This comes after the leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel, "El Mencho" was killed on Sunday following an operation led by Mexico's military. The military operation has triggered a series of violent events across the state of Jalisco, with cars, trucks, and streets being set on fire.
"Dear all Indian nationals in Mexico: There are ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity, Indian nationals in Jalisco State (areas of Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Guadalajara), Tamaulipas State (areas of Reynosa and other municipalities), areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State should shelter in place until further notice," the advisory read.

Following his death, unrest spread as cartel members burned vehicles in various states, and federal troops stood guard outside the General Prosecutor's headquarters in Mexico City.
