South African authorities say more than 53,000 undocumented foreign nationals have been deported or assisted to return to their home countries during an ongoing immigration enforcement campaign launched just over a month ago.
According to Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, a total of 53,499 people have so far been processed, with most coming from neighbouring Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
