In this segment journalist and author Caleb Maupin discusses his book Imperialism and Anti-Imperialism with guest host Keaton Weiss, arguing that traditional left-right divisions are breaking down as ideological camps split over empire, with some supporting U.S. hegemony and others opposing it. He draws parallels to the lead-up to WWII, when movements with the same stated ideology took opposite sides on global conflicts, and asserts that today's divide is between the dying Western financial system (pushing degrowth and police-state control) and the rising BRICS-led multipolar world (seeking economic growth and national sovereignty).
Maupin contends that ordinary Americans, like people worldwide, desire growth and opportunity, and that the establishment's imperial wars and austerity agenda are fundamentally anti-human. He calls for a new anti-imperialist, anti-monopoly coalition that embraces cooperation with China, Russia, and the Global South, positioning the U.S. as part of a cooperative multipolar future rather than a declining hegemon.
