A MAN armed with a shotgun and a fuel can has been shot dead after breaking into Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

Awhite male suspect in his 20swas “neutralised” after he entered the secure perimeter of the US president’sFloridahome, the Secret Service said.

The deadly shooting unfolded at around 1:30am local time (6:30am GMT) on Sunday, authorities said.

The suspect has been named as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin, according to a source close to the matter.

He was from North Carolina and had been reported missing by his family a few days ago, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.

Both Trump and First Lady Melania are currently inWashington– not at the US president’s sprawling 62,500-square-foot property in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Investigators believe Martin had left North Carolina and headed south, picking up a shotgun somewhere along the way.

The box for the gun has been recovered from his vehicle, Guglielmi added.
