Brooklyn-bound lanes of the bridge were closed to traffic as members of the NYPD’s Emergency Services, called to the scene around 7:30 p.m., climbed the beam to reach her. “For nearly an hour, they stayed with her, spoke with her, and waited for the moment they could safely pull her back from the edge,” Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a statement. “Don't do it. Don’t do it. Don’t do it,” an officer is heard saying to the woman as cops grab her. “Everything is going to be ok,” he tells her. “You’re not in trouble. I promise.” The unidentified woman, 31, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, the NYPD said. She was not arrested. “The care, courage, and compassion these officers showed was just extraordinary,” Tisch said.
