When Times Group MD Vineet Jain walked up to receive the “Lifetime Contribution to Media” honour from All India Management Association at its 70th Foundation Day on February 21, 2026, it was more than an award ceremony. It was institutional acknowledgement of a quiet revolution. Presented by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the recognition celebrated a man who inherited a legacy newspaper empire — and transformed it into India’s most diversified multimedia powerhouse.
But to reduce Vineet Jain’s journey to inheritance would be to miss the point entirely. He did not simply protect a legacy. He multiplied it and he is still doing so.

Under his stewardship, The Times Group did something rare in global media history — it expanded while others contracted. The Times of India retained its position as the world’s largest English-language daily broadsheet. But the story wasn’t just about circulation. It was about reinvention — As chief content architect, he brought in hyperlocal city coverage, all colour supplements, youth verticals, and more.
At a time when print globally was writing its own obituary, Times Group was writing new playbooks.
Then came Radio Mirchi, which pioneered private FM Radio in India – Vineet Jain is considered the father of FM Radio in India – as did Times Music with its focus on new Indian music genres.
Jain was amongst the first in media to spot the digital opportunity and launched the Times of India website in 1997, followed by the incorporation of Times Internet in 2000.
After a few years came television — not as an experiment, but as an assertion.
Times Now, launched in 2006, became a defining force in India’s political discourse. ET NOW strengthened business journalism for investors and corporates alike. Zoom built a 24x7 entertainment narrative long before influencer culture took over.
BARC ratings and internal network performance reports over the years consistently placed these brands among the leaders in their genres. This was not diversification for optics.
