After the washout between Pakistan and New Zealand in Colombo on Saturday (February 21), the Super 8 stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup finally kicked off on Sunday as the first game of the day saw England defeat co-hosts Sri Lanka at the Pallakele International Stadium by 51 runs in a low-scoring clash at the Pallekele International Stadium. This means that after all teams have played four games each in Group 2 of the Super Eight stage, the Harry Brook-led side is top of the standings with two points, while the hosts are in fourth
For those unversed, the top two teams from this group will reach the semi-finals and be joined by the two teams that will qualify from Group 1, which consists of India, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies.
England - The Harry Brook-led side has ensured their destiny is in their hands, and even one victory will ensure they will qualify, as that will mean that one of Pakistan or New Zealand cannot get more than three points while they will be on four points. While Sri Lanka is an equal to them (4), the two-time champions can qualify if they ensure their NRR remains better than the home team.
Pakistan And New Zealand: Pakistan and New Zealand will need to win both their remaining games, as any other scenario could see them stuck on three points. This will only be enough if both teams lose to England and both defeat Sri Lanka. If either one wins against England or loses to Sri Lanka, their qualification chances will drastically reduce.
Sri Lanka: Another defeat will knock Sri Lanka out of the tournament. However, if they win both games, it should be enough to earn qualification.
