Russia on Sunday fired scores of missiles and drones acrossUkraine, striking energy and rail infrastructure and residential buildings, killing one and injuring dozens of people.

According to AFP, a series of blasts were heard in Kyiv from around 4:00 am (local time), shortly after an air raid alert was issued, with the air force later widening the alert nationwide citing the threat of missiles.

“Moscow continues to invest in strikes more than in diplomacy," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media, saying that Russia launched about 50 missiles and 300 drones overnight.

He further said: “The main target of the attack was the energy sector. Ordinary residential buildings were also damaged, and there is damage to the railway."

The police said a 23-year-old policewoman, Viktoria Shpylka, was killed and about a dozen, including four children, were injured in and around the capital.

CNN quoted Lviv’s regional prosecutor’s office saying it has launched an investigation into “a terrorist act that caused serious consequences," but added that the circumstances were unclear.

Meanwhile, temperature dropped to nearly -10C when the capital was struck.

Ukraine’s energy ministry said consumers in six eastern and southeastern region were without power after the strikes.
