Aliens are back in political headlines, thanks to former US President Barack Obama. During a podcast last week, Obama had said that aliens likely exist, prompting quick reaction from US President Donald Trump. As per the reports, Trump stated he will direct government agencies, including the Defence Department, to begin identifying and releasing files related to aliens, UFOs and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).
The comments have reignited global curiosity about UFOs, secret government files, and of course, the most famous restricted site in America: Area 51.
During a podcast appearance, Obama said that given how vast the universe is, the possibility of life beyond Earth seems likely. However, he clarified that while he was president, he saw no evidence of contact with extraterrestrials.
He also addressed long-standing conspiracy theories, stating that there is no secret underground facility storing aliens and that if such a massive operation existed, it would be unlikely to be hidden even from a sitting president.
Later, on Instagram, Obama reiterated that he had never seen proof of alien life during his presidency. Experts have suggested that his comments were scientific in nature, referring to probability instead of direct knowledge.
Despite that clarification, the remarks triggered renewed debate online.
Trump’s Response and the Promise of File Releases
Trump reacted strongly to the comments. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, he said he personally does not have a position on whether aliens exist but acknowledged that many Americans are fascinated by the subject.
On his platform Truth Social, Trump stated that he would seek the release of all government files related to alien life, UFOs and UAPs. According to reports, he plans to instruct agencies to identify and release relevant documents.
Whenever aliens are discussed, Area 51 inevitably enters the conversation. Area 51 is a highly classified US Air Force facility located in Nevada, near the towns of Rachel and Hiko. The site is strictly prohibited for the public and heavily guarded with warning signs, armed patrols and electronic surveillance. Civilian aircraft are not permitted to fly over it.
