A significant development has emerged in the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, with federal authorities now reportedly in possession of photographs and names of individuals they believe could be linked to the case.
According to a report byCBS News, investigators have obtained images and identifying details of people who may match the individual captured on surveillance footage outside Nancy Guthrie's front door. The footage allegedly shows a person standing near the entrance with what appears to be a firearm holstered at their side.
Wednesday marked the eighteenth day since Nancy's disappearance, a case that has gripped the community and drawn national attention due to her family connection to Today presenter Savannah Guthrie. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are now working through what could prove to be a pivotal lead.
According to the report, authorities have been visiting local businesses, including gun retailers, in an effort to determine whether staff recognise any of the individuals depicted in the collected photographs.
One gun shop owner confirmed that he had received a packet containing approximately a dozen names and images. The photographs reportedly appear to have been sourced from driving licences and social media platforms. The shop owner stated that he did not recognise any of the individuals and that checks within his own customer database produced no matches.
It remains unclear how investigators compiled the list. However, parallel inquiries have focused on a backpack believed to be connected to the suspect. The item is understood to be sold exclusively at Walmart, which has reportedly provided purchase records and customer information to the sheriff's department. Whether those records directly correspond to the individuals in the FBI's possession has not been confirmed.
The case has also taken a complex turn with the emergence ofransom-related correspondence. Entertainment outletTMZhas claimed it received multiple emails demanding money in exchange for information related to Nancy's disappearance.
TMZ founder Harvey Levin stated during an appearance on Fox News that federal authorities are taking the communications seriously. He indicated there had been extensive contact between the outlet and the FBI regarding both the ransom note and the subsequent messages.
Levin emphasised that while investigators are highly interested in the material, this does not necessarily indicate that a breakthrough has already been achieved. He also confirmed that TMZ would refrain from disclosing whether further correspondence has been received, citing concerns that revealing too much could compromise the investigation.
Addressing the sender directly, Levin warned that knowingly providing false information in connection with a federal investigation constitutes a serious criminal offence.
