The Department of Homeland Security has shut down — at least temporarily.ReportedSaturday morning February 14th, a lapse in funding has caused a partial shutdown of DHS, although as the New York Times reported, it“was not expected to bring most of the department’s work to a halt yet could disrupt travelers, immigration enforcement and disaster relief if it is prolonged.”
While not particularly consequential in the grand scheme of things, as surely the uniparty will come to a compromise to keep their oligarchy enforcement arm open, it does bring up an interesting topic of conversation.

As most should be aware, Homeland Security is the parent department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and for those that have been following our reporting, or just casually paying attention to the volatility of the American police state, the rampant despotism with which ICE has been running amok on American streets is all too plain to see.
The agency has been behaving with a Gestapo-like vicious impunity, terrorizing communitiesand violating the constitution with wanton disregardtargeting immigrants and American citizens alike. And while the administration disingenuously dismisses this despotism as attempting to “keep America safe” by targeting “the worst of the worst”, the facts tell a different story.
Official data from within ICE itselfreviewed by the Cato Instituterevealed the vast majority of people taken by ICE are far from the worst, with upwards of 90% having no violent criminal convictions and over half having no convictions at all. With a recentinvestigation by Reutersfinding ICE illegally jailed People over 4,400 times in the last five months, even refusing to release individuals from captivity despite judges orders.
The agency is going on a spending spree, using its excessive budget toinvest in surveillance techand partnering with technocratic firmssuch as Palantirto expand theirillegal spying on American communities. All the while being grantedcontracts by the US militaryto build a sprawling series ofconcentration camps across the countryby purchasing warehouses, factories and industrial buildings for use as detention centers.
In lieu of these developments it has resulted in an outpouring of outcry demanding for ICE to be abolished, and rightfully so. But the same can be said for their parent agency, as well as many others.
With as monolithic as the agency has become, those too young to remember may not be aware just how young the agency actually is. The Department of Homeland Security officially began operation on March 1st, 2003, making the agency a mere 23 years old.
