A winter storm watch is in effect for Suffolk County from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, with blizzard conditions possible, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service said total snow accumulations of 10 to 13 inches are possible across Suffolk, with winds that could gust as high as 45 mph.
If the storm intensifies as forecast, travel could become very difficult to impossible, with blowing snow significantly reducing visibility. The hazardous conditions could affect both the Monday morning and evening commutes, the weather service said. Forecasters also warned that the combination of gusty winds and heavy, wet snow could bring down tree branches.
In its forecast discussion Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service said confidence has increased in an “impactful snowfall” Sunday into Monday for at least Long Island, though uncertainties remain, including a sharp cutoff in snow amounts to the northwest depending on the storm’s track.
Residents should prepare now for possible blizzard conditions and continue to monitor updated forecasts and any changes to watches or warnings, the weather service said.
