In an exclusive conversation with Navika Kumar, Group Editor-in-Chief of Times Now & Times Now NavBharat, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Lammy congratulated India for hosting what he called a 'very successful AI summit.' He said the event focused on AI safety, global cooperation and the needs of countries in the Global South.

Speaking on the sidelines of the AI summit, Lammy said: "Well, I congratulate India for pulling off a very successful AI summit. This begins, of course, in the UK when Rishi Sunak was Prime Minister. And at that stage, just three years ago, the emphasis was very much on safety."

Lammy pointed out that a similar theme was visible at India’s summit.

"And since then, we have seen safety institutes set up across much of the globe as people wrestle with these issues in relation to AI and how they do this and don't over regulate. That's of course been a theme in India's summit," he said.

Praising India’s approach, he added that the summit had successfully highlighted the needs of emerging economies and wider society.

"I congratulate India for centering the global south, for centering how you catalyse the benefits of AI for everyone in society, not just the few and the elite at the top," Lammy said.

He also talked about the importance of the UK-India partnership in the technology and AI space.

"I also think that for the UK-India relationship, the opportunities in innovation, the opportunities in adoption of AI across significant systems, the benefits and health in agriculture, have really come out across the range of this," he said.
