India has launched Operation Amistad, a humanitarian assistance mission to support earthquake-hit Venezuela by deploying relief supplies, an Indian Army medical contingent and a state-of-the-art modular field hospital.

Two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft have departed forVenezuela, transiting through Abidjan, carrying nearly 35 tonnes of relief material, an Indian Army Field Hospital contingent and two BHISHM Cubes to assist those affected by the devastating earthquake in northern Venezuela.

The medical contingent comprises 41 personnel, including nine medical officers, trained to provide emergency medical care, trauma management, life-saving surgeries and other critical healthcare services in disaster-hit areas.

The team is also carrying around six tonnes of medical stores and humanitarian relief supplies provided by the Ministry of External Affairs.

A key highlight of the mission is the deployment of a BHISHM Cube (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita & Maitri) under India's Aarogya Maitri Project.

The BHISHM Cube is an indigenously developed, rapidly deployable modular medical facility designed for humanitarian crises and disaster response. It can be assembled into a fully operational field hospital capable of treating up to 200 patients and is equipped with portable ventilators, patient monitors, diagnostic equipment, surgical instruments, oxygen support systems and power generation facilities.

The advanced medical system enables doctors to deliver emergency trauma care, conduct life-saving surgeries and provide intensive care support in remote or disaster-affected locations.

The government said the launch of Operation Amistad underscores India's continued commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) and reflects its readiness to extend timely support to friendly nations during times of crisis.
