At the Board of Peace event in Washington on Thursday, US President Donald Trump recalled his previous visit to China, sharing a light-hearted recollection from his time in the country.

Describing the trip as a “wild one" ahead of his upcoming visit to the nation, scheduled in April this year, Trump recalled how the Chinese President treated him “so well".

“Last time I went to China, President Xi treated me so well. He gave me a display… And it was pretty amazing."

“I never saw so many soldiers all the same height, exactly the same height. I said, if they put their helmets down, you could have played pool on the top of their heads. And it was pretty amazing," Trump said, drawing laughter from the audience.

At the Board of Peace event, Donald Trump expressed hope that peace will be restored in war-hit Gaza, amid conflicts with Israel.

“We will help Gaza. We will straighten it out. We’ll make it successful," Trump said, holding up a document listing pledges.

“We will make it peaceful, and we will do things like that in other spots. Spots will come up, things will happen", he added.

Trump announced his administration would contribute USD 10 billion to the initiative — in a stark contrast to the government’s broader fiscal policy against providing foreign aid elsewhere.

According to the White House, countries including, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, vowed to contribute USD 1 billion each to aid the initiative. “Together we can achieve the dream of bringing lasting harmony to a region tortured by centuries of war, suffering," said the US President.

The Board Of Peace was unveiled by Trump at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, last month. Initially envisioned as an organisation that would oversee the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, with the aim of restoring peace in the region.
