What Is ALS? All About Cause Of Death
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a condition that affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. These nerves control the muscles we use to move, speak, swallow, and breathe.
In ALS, these nerves gradually stop working. This causes the muscles to weaken over time.
People with ALS may find it harder to walk, hold objects, or even talk and eat as the disease progresses. While the mind usually stays sharp, the loss of muscle control can make daily life very challenging. There is no cure yet, but treatments and therapies can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
