A 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in Delhi's Nangloi area, leaving behind a video message in which she accused her in-laws of mentally harassing her and spoke about the difficulties she had been facing in her marriage.
The deceased, identified as Tina, was found hanging from aceiling fan at her in-laws' residenceon Tuesday afternoon, police said.
In the video, Tina addressed her parents, husband, and other family members. She appealed to her parents not to fight among themselves after her death and asked them to take care of her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
She also expressed her wish that her child should not be handed over to anyone else, including her husband.
Tina alleged that she had been subjected to mental harassment by her husband's family. In the recording, she said she had always wanted a small family and denied allegations made against her, stating that she had never practised black magic.
She further described her husband as unstable and said she could no longer continue living with him.
After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot, took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Since the death occurred within seven years of marriage, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) was informed, and an inquiry was initiated as per legal procedure.
The statement of the deceased's mother has been recorded by the police and the SDM. According to investigators, the mother did not allege dowry harassment but claimed that Rohit used to physically assault Tina while under the influence of alcohol.
Police said Rohit is currently undergoing treatment for a serious head injury sustained in an accident a few months ago. Doctors have reportedly described his condition as critical.
