A 33-year-old tourist from Karnataka’s Bijapur district drowned after being swept away by strong waves at Baga Beach in North Goa. The deceased, identified as Ashpak Masali, was sitting on rocks near the shoreline when a sudden surge of rough waves struck the area and dragged him into the sea. Officials said he had been warned about the dangerous sea conditions but remained on the rocks.

A search operation was launched immediately after the incident, and Masali’s body was later recovered from the shoreline. Authorities have urged tourists to strictly follow safety advisories issued by lifeguards and local officials, especially during rough weather.

Goa has recorded 71 drowning deaths between January and June 2026, with most victims being youths, raising fresh concerns over water safety across beaches, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls in the state.
