Glenn Phillips set multiple unwanted world records during New Zealand's T20 World Cup 2026 clash against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday (February 10) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as Mitchell Santner's gamble to hand the ball to the part-time off-spinner in the 18th over backfired. The associate nation was able to accelerate in the slog overs as they smashed 27 runs, which played a key role in them posting a competitive total of 173 on the board after winning the toss and choosing to bat first in their first game of the tournament.
Mayank Kumar, who walked out to bat in the 15th over, smashed the second and third balls for a six and a four. After skipper Mohammad Waseem got the strike, he smashed the fourth delivery for a maximum. Overall, there were two wides and a no-ball during the course of the over, too.
The UAE cricket team broke England's 10-year-old record, which was set courtesy of Jos Buttler and Joe Root, for the most runs in an over in T20 World Cup history against New Zealand. The 2010 champions had scored 22 runs during a match in the 2016 edition at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.
