Videos of President Donald Trump appearing to “doze off” during the launch of his Board of Peace have gone viral on social media. The 79-year-old president, with his eyes closed, was seen seemingly struggling to stay upright in his chair and shuddering his eyes as other leaders delivered speeches.
The moment was captured during remarks by several dignitaries at the event, including Major General Jasper Jeffers III and former UK PM Tony Blair. In the clip, Trump appears still with his eyes shut while speakers address the gathering, prompting speculation online about whether he had briefly fallen asleep.
"Board of Peace and Quiet. IT'S NAP TIME FOR GRANDPA," a user wrote on X.
"Trump asleep, again, the swaying is a dead giveaway of falling asleep while upright," another user posted.
This is not the first time Trump has faced questions about appearing drowsy during official events. Just last month, he addressed a December cabinet meeting video in which he was seen closing his eyes for extended periods.
“Some people said, he closed his eyes. Look, it got pretty boring,” Trump said in the White House cabinet room. “I didn't sleep. I just closed them because I wanted to get the hell outta here.” He added, “I didn't sleep, by the way. I don't sleep much.”
At 79, Trump is the oldest US president in office, and his health has often been the subject of public scrutiny. Questions have been raised about the medical imaging tests he disclosed and the bruising on his hands. The White House has said the tests were preventative and showed good cardiac health, while attributing the bruising, sometimes covered with makeup, to aspirin he takes as a precaution against cardiovascular disease.
Despite the viral moment, Trump madesignificant announcementsduring the meeting. He said nine members pledged $7 billion toward a Gaza relief package, while five countries, Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania, agreed to deploy troops for a Gaza stabilization force. Egypt and Jordan committed to training police, and troops are expected to initially deploy to Rafah as reconstruction begins.
