The West Bengal Police arrested Sarina Bibi, wife of Trinamool leader Jahangir Khan, from Julpia under the Bishnupur police station limits, taking the total number of arrests to 27. She has reportedly been arrested for allegedly orchestrating an attack on Falta police station and attempting to secure her husband's release from custody.

Jahangir Khan, who called himself 'Pushpa' -- inspired by the Allu Arjun-starrer Telugu blockbuster, was arrested near the India-Nepal border in north Bengal on June 8 after he was booked under various charges, including extortion.

Following his arrest, supporters of Khan gathered in large numbers in Falta's Shatol Kolsa area and staged protests before marching towards the police station.

Investigators alleged that the demonstrators intended to forcibly secure Khan's release and create unrest in the area. Tension escalated as the crowd moved from outside Khan's residence towards the police station.

According to the police, Khan's wife had been mobilising supporters and an FIR was registered against her in connection with the incident.

Videos purportedly showing protesters fleeing and jumping into nearby water bodies after being chased by police went viral on social media.

Since Jahangir Khan's arrest, the West Bengal Police have conducted a series of operations in Falta aimed at dismantling his alleged criminal network and restoring law and order in the region.

Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that stringent action would be taken against those who allegedly tried to storm a police station in the South 24 Parganas district.

"I saw on television that some people, under the leadership of the mafia's wife, tried to attack police personnel and paramilitary forces. The rule of law has been established in Falta. No matter how big a mafia is, the BJP government will teach them a lesson," CM Adhikari was quoted as saying.

"Not only jail, but the properties of those who have carried out the attack will be confiscated and put up for auction. Our double-engine government will ensure this. Establishing the rule of law is our objective," the chief minister said. "There will be no room for hooliganism, loot or violence of any kind in this area anymore," he added.
