US President Donald Trump has clarified his viral "I'm the boss" remark made during the G7 summit, saying the comment was intended as a joke and not a serious assertion of authority. Speaking on The Axios Show on Friday, Trump addressed the moment that drew global attention and sparked widespread discussion online. He said the remark was taken out of context and amplified far beyond what he had intended.
Recalling the incident, the show's host asked Trump, "You walked in and you said, 'I'm the boss.' How many of them would believe that?"
"All of them, but I was just being funny,"Trumpreplied. He explained that the comment was made casually as he entered a room where other world leaders were already seated.
"What happened is they were all sitting and then I walked into the room," Trump said. "They are all well-known figures, heads of the countries... I walked in and there were these leaders and I just looked at them and said, 'I'm the boss.' That was done as a joke," he said.
TheUS Presidentadded that he was surprised by the global reaction to the comment.
"This thing got carried all over the world. I can't believe it. I was trying to be funny. I wasn't trying to be the boss," he said.
Trump sparked laughter among world leaders after jokingly declaring, "I'm the boss," as he entered a meeting on the final day of the G7 summit in France. The remark quickly went viral on social media and drew reactions from around the world, prompting Trump to offer an explanation during the interview.
The light-hearted remark came amid intense discussions on two of the world's biggest crises, the Russia-Ukraine war and the evolving US-Iran agreement.
The G7 leaders issued a joint declaration reaffirming their "unwavering support" for Ukraine, pledging additional air-defence assistance and signalling fresh measures to increase pressure on Russia's economy.
Meanwhile, speaking on the Iran war, Trump indicated that any future benefits for Iran would depend on its conduct under the agreement.
