According to a US official who spoke to NBC News, Iran has launched multiple drones towards commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz since Washington and Tehran signed amemorandum of understandingon Sunday.
The official said the drones were deployed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), adding that US forces intercepted and destroyed the aircraft before they could threaten commercial shipping orAmerican personnel in the region.
NBC News reported that the IRGC has carried out the drone launches every night since the agreement was signed electronically.
Iranian state media hailed the "diplomatic breakthrough" with the United States as a major victory for Tehran afterDonald Trumpannounced that a peace agreement had been reached on Sunday.
State broadcaster Network News (Khabar TV) claimed Iran had succeeded in forcing its adversaries to bring the lengthy conflict to an end, describing the development as a triumph for the Islamic Republic.
In a broadcast following the announcement, the channel said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has officially forced the American-Zionist enemy to end the war on all fronts."
The reaction came after Mr Trump declared on Sunday that negotiations had concluded and that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz would resume.
Writing on Truth Social, the US President said: "The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete.
"Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade.
"Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow! President DONALD J. TRUMP."
