Amid reports of unrest within its ranks and speculation over a possible breakaway by some MPs, Shiv Sena (UBT) has formally approached Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting that no recognition be granted to any faction claiming to represent the party. In a letter written by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant, the party maintained that it continues to be recognised as a single political party in the Lok Sabha through its duly authorised leader and whip.

"The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) continues to be recognised as a single political party represented in the House through its duly authorised leader and whip," the letter stated.

The party further urged the Speaker not to grant any separate status, privileges or facilities to any purported faction or breakaway group and sought an opportunity to present its position before any decision is taken on such requests. The letter also asserted that the party reserves all legal remedies available to it, including invoking provisions of the Tenth Schedule, commonly known as the anti-defection law, against any conduct deemed inconsistent with constitutional principles.

The move comes amid growing speculation that a section ofShiv Sena (UBT)MPs could defect to the faction led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, a claim that party leaders have repeatedly raised in recent days.

Sources told Times Now that dissatisfaction among a section of Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs had been simmering for months, eventually triggering the current rebellion. According to sources, several MPs felt politically vulnerable in their constituencies and were frustrated by what they described as a lack of engagement from the party leadership.

One of the key grievances was that party chief Uddhav Thackeray allegedly did not visit their constituencies despite repeated requests. Sources also claimed that some MPs were unable to secure appointments with Aaditya Thackeray despite multiple attempts.

The dissident leaders further alleged that regular meetings with MPs were not held, leaving their concerns unaddressed, and that the party failed to provide adequate funds and organisational support during local body elections, deepening resentment within the ranks.

Meanwhile, a parliamentary party meeting of Shiv Sena UBT has been called in parliament tomorrow, sources told Times Now. All MPs have been asked to come to the meeting.
