Now, a video on social media has gone viral, putting Wasim at the centre of a culture row. An X user uploaded the video and captioned it as, "Since when didVarmalabecome a Pakistani thing? This is a video of Pakistani wedding, Pakistani Cricketer Imad Wasim marries his rumoured girlfriend Nyla Rajah. Here you won't find any Burqa or Parda as they generally do in their culture." In the video, the Pakistan cricketer is seen exchanging garlands with Raja, a traditional Hindu ritual symbolising mutual acceptance.

The video has now got the internet split with one user stating, "They shared our land and culture. What’s there to be surprised about. Did you see how women in Bangladesh celebrated Basant Panchami. India split and so did our culture. Which isn’t a bad thing. Erasure would be bad," while another user pointed out, "Never seen bride n groom garlanding each other in Pakistan, it's no where a norm."

"It’s good that people are embracing the culture of love and color, instead hate and black. Hope this will not be limited to punjabi Pakistani, and one day all of Pakistan adopt our beautiful Indian culture," another user wrote, while another suggested, "Oh bhai flower varmala stuff is pretty normal right from old school weddings."

Imad Wasim is a Pakistani cricketer who has played 55 ODIs and 75 T20Is. In 55 ODIs, he has scored 986 runs at an average of 42.86 and has 44 wickets to his name. In T20Is, he has scored 554 runs at an average of 15.82 and a strike rate of 130.04. He has also taken 73 wickets in the shortest format of the game. Born in Glamorgan, Wales, he plays for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). In 2024, he created history by becoming the first cricketer to take a five-wicket haul in the PSL final against Multan Sultans. Before getting picked by the United, Wasim was part of the Karachi Kings set up since the inception of the league.

The out-of-favour 37-year-old last played for Pakistan against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024 at Lauderhill. He was the pick of the bowlers in that game, returning with figures of 3 for 8 in his quota of four overs. He is also one of the few Pakistani cricketers to have played in the Bangladesh Premier League, Caribbean Premier League, Men's 100, Vitality Blast, Major League Cricket in the US, ILT20, Big Bash League, and the Lanka Premier League.
