A teenage girl was allegedlygang rapedafter being abducted from a bus stop.Policesaid one suspect has been arrested while themanhuntfor the other three attackers continues.
The girl, 13, was stood by a bus stop on Sunday afternoon (June 14) when anSUVpulled up alongside her. It is reported that four youths dragged her inside the vehicle before it pulled away and headed towards a secluded forested area. The girl was then allegedly gang raped by the group and left unconscious as they fled the scene. After managing to return home, she was taken to hospital where she is continuing to undergo medical treatment.
As reported byETV Bharat, the alleged attack took place in the Bhojpur district of the Indian state of Bihar at 5pm (12.30pm in the UK). Local police have arrested one suspect and are continuing to work to locate the remaining three.
Subodh Kumar, a Sahar police officer, said: "The incident occurred at around 5 pm on Sunday. We registered an FIR against one named and three unnamed accused, and sent our teams to nab them. We have managed to arrest one of them, Santu Kumar, a resident of Basidihri village within 24 hours of the crime."
Police believe they know the identities of the three remaining attackers. They are urging the public for information to help track them down.
Local reports said the victim was left unconscious after being raped by the youths. After waking up, she returned home and reported what happened to her family.
She was then taken to the district hospital at Ara for treatment as her family reported the attack to police. The girl identified one of the suspects to police before the first arrest was carried out.
The population of the Bhojpur district is around 2.7 million people. It is located in western Bihar, sitting around 53km west of the state capital of Patna.
