A family’s celebration of theNew York Knicks’ NBA championshipended in heartbreak Saturday night when police shot and killed a family’s beloved dog after responding to reports of a screaming woman.

The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. at a condo complex in Canoga Park, where officers were called to check on a woman who was heard screaming,ABC7reported.

Jameson, a 2-year-old golden retriever, Saint Bernard and poodle mix, was celebrating with the family before the shooting. A photo taken moments beforehe was killedshowed the dog wearing a New York Knicks shirt.

Police said the dog rushed toward officers when they arrived at the building. Officers then opened fire, killing Jameson.

According to an official news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, officers from the Topanga Patrol Division responded to a radio call about a “screaming woman” inside an apartment.

Officers state that the large dog was with its owner when they asked her to secure it. She briefly closed the door, then reopened it, allowing Jameson to exit the apartment. The dog then reportedly charged at an officer, resulting in the shooting.

Cellphone video captured the emotional aftermath.

“Oh my God! Oh my God,” a woman cried. “I cannot believe this is happening. I cannot believe this is happening.”
